PR Campaign

JU-ON: The Grudge is a game created with the heavy involvement of the director of the original Japanese movies, generally thought of as some of the scariest movies ever created and has a good cult following.

The Brief

To plan, prepare and execute a PR campaign for Ju-On: The Grudge. Primarily to increase awareness of the game / fright sim genre. It was essential that the campaign reflected the social nature of the game and explained to gamers how it tied into the cult series of movies.

What we did

Sponge delivered a comprehensive online and offline PR campaign over a 10 week period. We hosted a PR gaming session to showcase the game to journalists from Maxim, Loaded, Independent Online and Games Radar. The sessions atmosphere was ‘dark and eerie’ reinforcing the games theme and ‘gamers’ wore headphones to maximise the fright simulations.
