Nevis Tourism Authority

Nevis Tourism Authority

Sponge has worked for the Nevis Tourism Authority (NTA) to drive destination awareness since 2013. We were appointed to encourage tourism to the Caribbean island of Nevis by promoting Nevis as a luxury, romantic, unique and sporting destination to UK travellers.

Our Objectives:

  • To eliminate the off season
  • To differentiate Nevis from other Caribbean islands
  • To diversify and focus on a range of specific areas of interest.

Solution:

We wanted to target individual communities – specifically sports and active communities like cyclists, runners, triathletes, cricketers, rugby players, football and netball clubs, universities, and schools. This is in addition to driving additional independent visitor numbers via our swim, marathon and triathlon race events such as: Nevis to St. Kitts Cross Channel Swim, Nevis Annual Triathlon, and Nevis Marathon & Running Festival.

Results:

Between 2015/16, Nevis UK visitor numbers rocketed in all hotels on the island without exception, reporting a 30 – 200 per cent increase in room nights compared to the previous year.

Sponge focused on promoting other niche areas by sending both specialist and mainstream journalists to report on The Nature of Nevis, The Mango and Food Festival, Culturama, Nevis History Month, Turtle Season, The Blues Festival, and the Nevis Travel Symposium of Romance.

Our work has achieved a 12% increase in bookings from the UK in Q1/Q2 2015 from the same period in 2014.
